Roar Moe

In 1982, Moe became part of the “Hjemkomst” Viking Ship project, which sailed from New York to Bergen, Norway. He signed on to sail the ship from Bergen to Stavanger.

Moe’s love of the sea, nature, culture and history has defined his life. At the young age of 33, he asked himself serious questions like “What makes life worth living? Is there any use for my particular talents?” In 1990, he and three partners searched for and purchased a place to dock and use their restored boats, and to start an “outdoor school”, to run a nature-life program where students could “live inside and practice” the history—not only read about it. The place was Litle Færøy, a small island and a part of the Solund Community.
In 1996, Moe settled permanently on the island, alone and was joined by his cat Pontifer.  An old saying tells us that “a seaman doesn’t ask for good weather—he learns to sail.” According to Moe, “Life on Litle Færøy is like that. You have to develop skills on how to manage life from one day to the next. Every day is free and ready to be shaped. To me it means to search, discover, find a track and follow it.”

This is the only Animal Law Committee in the ABA and its scope is broad, ranging from equine, family, endangered species, and criminal law, to torts and insurance law.

In addition to her extensive volunteer efforts, including serving as editor-in-chief of the Animal Law Committee Newsletter and publishing articles in ABA-TIPS’ The Brief, TortSource and Tort Trial & Insurance Law Journal. Gislason is actively involved in the practice of Animal Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is an effective negotiator and a tenacious litigator. This practice area includes drafting agreements, disputes about ownership, harassment, land use, dangerous and exotic animals, deceptive trade practices, defamation and injury to pets. She consults with lawyers from around the world.
